The annual Summer School at Cardiff Metropolitan University took place from the 23rd – 26th July 2018 during the first week of the school summer holidays.
Over 80 KS4 pupils from schools across South East Wales took part in a diverse range of courses that reflect the courses on offer at the University; Sport Science, Dance and PE, Health Sciences, Art and Design, Animation and Computer Game Design, Hospitality and Events.
The courses are designed to provide a taster of each subject area with an insight in to what it is like to study that subject area at HE level and potential career opportunities. One of the Hospitality and Events pupils said;
‘I liked working in the kitchen with other people because it has helped me understand what it would be like to work as a chef’
One of the most positive outcomes of the Summer School is the opportunity for pupils to make new friends with peers that they would not otherwise have the opportunity to meet. Pupils on this year’s Summer School came from 18 different schools from across South East Wales.
