SHEP (School Holiday Enrichment Programme) 2019
Primary school pupils from across Cardiff have been visiting Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Llandaf Campus as part of the SHEP (School Holiday Enrichment Programme) throughout July and August.
SHEP is a school-based programme (funded by the WLGA) that provides healthy meals, food and nutrition education, physical activity and enrichment sessions to children in areas of social deprivation during the summer holidays. First Campus have been offering Campus Visits as an enrichment activity on the programme for the last two years. To find out more about the SHEP Programme please visit their website https://www.wlga.wales/food-and-fun-school-holiday-enrichment-programme
This year pupils were given the opportunity to live the life of a University student for a day, taking part in workshops in subjects that can be studied at University and finding out how a University Campus compares to their school environment.
Workshops included Screen Printing, Biomedical Science, Hospitality and Food, Forest Schools, Lino Print, Robotics, Complementary Healthcare and Creative Writing
This year the SHEP Programme was extended to KS3 and pupils from St Teilo’s High School visited Llandaf Campus to take part in the workshops but were also challenged to think about the range of subjects they could study in the future in a ‘University Mythbuster session.
