The Discovery Project is a scheme for young people with a diagnosis of ASD who are between the ages of 14 and 19 who aspire to go on to higher education. Pupils meet once a fortnight with current university students who can give them an insight into university life and help equip them with the necessary skills to navigate it. Sessions can consist of various activities including workshops, academic taster sessions and social events. There will also be the opportunity for pupils to receive extra support for homework, revision, and making applications to college and university. Together, the young people and their mentors will plan out a calendar for the year ahead, combining events from the program of group sessions with individual activities (such as planning a meal and cooking together, going for a coffee, or attending open days). The project runs from October to Easter, then culminates in the annual Discovery Summer School, held in July and hosted by Cardiff University.
