The Confident Futures Project

Project Description

Confident Futures, funded by Cardiff University, is a project run for looked after children and care leavers between the ages of 14 and 19 to raise their aspirations and confidence. The sessions run fortnightly from October to April throughout the academic year, and they consist of group activities as well as individual support given by current Cardiff University students. Attending the project will give young people access to workshops which can support their studies and applications to university, as well as university events such as GCSE/A Level revision workshops and advice sessions to support Personal Education Plans and pathways.

In brief, the purpose is to provide young people who have a background in care with the skills and information to obtain Higher Education, and to help them become familiar with the main aspects of life at university.

Participants will also have the opportunity to experience the social side of university life, including going on social trips to the cinema, have society taster sessions and, of course, university taster days.  The programme then culminates in July with its annual residential summer school, held each year in Cardiff University and funded by First Campus.
