Friday 21 December 2018

The USW Impact Awards 2018 recognised University academics for their work in highlighting some of the biggest challenges facing our society. Professor Paul Carr, Professor in Popular Music Analysis, won the award for Best Impact in Culture and the Arts in recognition of the impact on public perception of the role played by Merthyr Tydfil in the development of popular music in Wales.

The Merthyr Musical Memories project, funded in part by First Campus, told the positive history of popular music in the town between 1955 and the mid-1970s. The project documented the memories of those who remember musical events in Merthyr during this period, as well as engaging pupils from Pantysgallog and Gwaunfarren Primary Schools in re-enacting their musical heritage.
