Girls from Porth County Community School, Porth Juniors and Ynyshir Primary visited USW Sport Park and took part in a football festival. It was great to see primary, secondary and UG students all working together on a carousel of football activities: dribbling, shooting and a football match. Chloe Lloyd a BSc Strength & Conditioning student at USW, who has been capped by Wales Women’s football team 28 times, presented prizes she had donated. Prizes were given to the Most Improved Player, Most Committed Player and Best Player Overall.
The event, which was a collaboration between First Campus, Schools and College Liaison and USW Sport, received excellent feedback from the participants. 83% said they would like to find out more about girl’s football, 90% would recommend the event to others and 80% reporting that following the event they are more likely to apply to university.
Participants were interviewed, both during and after the activities, by Sports Journalism students who also attended the event.
