Hello, I’m Allyson Walters, the new Operations Manager for the First Campus Hub. As a former child carer and someone who experienced early disruption to their education, I’m proud and excited to be working alongside colleagues who are deeply committed to supporting people who experience similar challenges.
The First Campus delivery team are providing life-changing opportunities for young, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our communities and I’m going to be responsible for the central communications functions, processes, analysis and reporting that support the delivery strands for the First Campus Partnership.
I’m an operations specialist with 17 years experience in retail organisations, the last ten spent with the John Lewis Partnership. My early career was spent as an engineer in the factories of South Wales with Sony, Panasonic and Bosch.
I’ve recently completed a sabbatical to study a full-time MBA at Cardiff University and to travel the world. The travel plans were curtailed by the current pandemic but I did manage to visit Scandinavia, Russia and the Baltic states. It’s an extraordinary time to join the team and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
Outside work I’m a keen sailor with cross-channel, Mediterranean, North African and Indian Ocean experience.
I’m Ellie, the new First Campus Manager (Young People). I’m really excited to have joined First Campus and am looking forward to working with the team to develop a great programme for the 2020/21 academic year.
It’s been a strange start to the role as I didn’t manage to make it down to Cardiff before the lockdown and so am still based up in Leeds, where I’ve been based for the past 4 years working at Leeds University Students’ Union.
I’ve spent my career working in a range of different roles, all focused on the provision and development of opportunities for young people; from outdoor education, to youth services, to overseas expeditions. Previous jobs have taken me from Greece to Leeds, via Scotland, London, Malaysian Borneo, Tanzania and North Wales, and I am now really excited to be moving to South Wales, where my family is originally from.
Having travelled down to Cardiff from various parts of the country for every Welsh rugby home game in the six nations over the past few years, I am really looking forward to being able to walk to the stadium!
