| Young Bands get Advice from Top Music Producers |

Top music producers Tony Platt and Greg Haver worked with the bands at the University of Glamorgan’s state-of-the-art ATRiuM building in Cardiff as part of a First Campus creative summer school. Top music producer Tony Platt who has worked with the likes of AC/DC, Bob Marley and Iron Maiden was on hand to work with the up and coming young bands along with Greg Haver who has produced music with the bands the Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia and the Super Furry Animals as well as former Spice Girl Mel C.
The bands, ‘Indi-go Modem’ from Pontypridd, 'Your Local Hero' Bilingual band ‘Indi-go Modem’ is made of Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg pupils Cai Morgan, Carwyn Rees, Daniel John Evans, Huw Blainey and Lewis Mann. All aged between 15 and 16, the band takes its inspiration from 80s rock music. Talking about the experience Cai Morgan commented, “We were really lucky to have this unique opportunity The facilities at the ATRiuM are brilliant and we were excited to come away with a professional sounding recording as well as a music video.” Bridgend band Tempra is made up of Bridgend College students Luke Morgan, 19, James Owen, 22, Jackson Downs, 19 and Steffan Edwards, 19. Jackson commented, “This experience has really opened up a new perspective on music and for me as a writer. When we write songs we sometimes settle for something that we are only half happy with. Working with Tony and Greg has taught us that we should always push ourselves further to achieve the best.” Tony Platt said, “This is my second year working at this unique summer school and it is a privilege working with young artists at this point in their career. Full marks to First Campus for recognising what creativity is all about.” In total over 50 young people from across South Wales have taken part in the creative summer school at the ATRiuM. The youngsters from schools across the region were given the opportunity to undertake projects in everything from animation to film making and music production, working with state-of-the-art equipment and with professionals in their chosen fields.
The First Campus Summer School runs each year and gives school pupils a taste of university life. |

from Bridgend, 'Dreams that Fail' from RCT, and ‘Tempra’ from Bridgend had to go through an audition process to win their coveted places. Over the two weeks they worked with Tony Platt and other music specialists to produce a professional recording of their work and a music video.
First Campus manager Kath Maddy said, “This was a fantastic opportunity for young people to work with some of the best technology and experts in the creative industries. The bands both came away with professionally produced recordings of their work which they will be able to use to boost their own careers in the music industry.”
