| Welsh Baccalaureate Event |
|
Pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni attended a Multi-Cultural Awareness day at the University of Wales, Newport recently. 120 pupils attended the event which was designed to focus on a particular area of their Welsh Baccalaureate qualification, considering the ways multi-cultural influences affect people's lives. Working in five groups the pupils worked their way around a carousel of activities, including talks from the Chaplain at the University, a session meeting some of the University's international students, a session by the University International Office, a session with the Muslim Faith Advisor to the University and a food tasting session. The food was from China, Pakistan and Italy. The pupils learnt about the different foods served at different festivals throughout the year, how the University deals with the requirements of different religions and cultures and the differences between education in the UK and overseas. The sessions were relaxed and informal and allowed discussions between the pupils and the presenters. This enabled the pupils to gain maximum benefit. Everyone had a really good day and the pupils went away with a much broader awareness of mutli-cultural issues in higher education. |
