What your job involves:
As the First Campus Co-ordinator, I manage the team at Newport on the First Campus project.  We teresadevelop and run events and activities that encourage young people to raise their aspirations, awareness and motivation to Higher Education.  I am responsible for managing the budget and collating reports for the project as well as supporting the team in achieving the targets set by HEFCW.

Example of a typical event/ typical day at work :
My days are varied and can include report writing, managing the budget, team meetings, liaising with partners, staff development, working with students and academic staff and keeping up to date with polices and procedures for the university.

Favourite part of your job :
Working with the team and partners involved in the project.  I also enjoy finding out what students think about First Campus and reading the feedback we receive on our events.

Background:
I gained my GCSEs at Blackwood Comprehensive School and continued studying at Coleg Gwent Crosskeys, gaining A Levels in History and Sociology.  I then gained a degree at Cardiff University in Sociology and followed this with a Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance at the University of Glamorgan.
I then worked as a Careers Adviser and Manager with Gwent Careers before moving to the University of Wales, Newport on a widening access project and studying part time for a PGCE (FE), before taking on the First Campus Co-ordinator role in 2000.

Outside work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and reading.
