South Wales school pupils attended the glitzy world premier of their very own film at the Cineworld cinema in Cardiff this week. The film, named ‘Reaching Higher’ was produced entirely by the youngsters as part of a project run by the First Campus partnership and Tornado Films. The young people involved participated in all aspects of the film-making from the inception of the idea right the way through to post production. The project was about empowering young people and developing their ideas so that they felt ownership and responsibility of the end product. ![]() Over the last five years Tornado Films has worked with First Campus to deliver 'An Introduction to the World of Film and TV' workshops throughout Schools in South East Wales. First Campus Manager Kathryn Maddy said, “The film is a remarkable achievement, it is a celebration for all those young people who were involved and participated in all aspects of film-making. We believed that we could focus all this energy, passion and talent into one commercially viable feature film that can be exploited on the National and International stages. “The film has truly provided a platform for many aspiring writers, actors, directors, make-up artists etc, to go on and make something of themselves. There has been a great opportunity here for a lot of young people in the region to gain valuable training and experience in the world of Film & Television. The biggest prize for the pupils was seeing their film in the cinema.” ![]() |
