National Saturday Club: Masterclass with Matt Jones, Google Research

by Site Admin on Monday 12 June 2017

Cardiff School of Art & Design and Cardiff School of Health Sciences have been working with First Campus to deliver weekly Art & Science Clubs to young people aged 14-16.

As part of the Saturday Club the young people got the opportunity to attend a Masterclass with Matt Jones from Google Research.     Matt, originally from Porthcawl, spoke to the group about his career pathway, inspiring the young people to think creatively and explore the process of design.

Matt ran group work and practical sessions, encouraging brainstorming and design process of a toy. The participants then had to work in their groups to design either a mousetrap or a ghost trap and present their concepts back to the whole group, explaining their thought process behind their final designs.

One young participants said of the masterclass ‘I got to be ridiculous in a productive way, my mouth hurts from smiling’ and another felt that they learnt to ‘try to be more imaginative with problem solving’.

First Campus would like to thank Matt for taking the time to visit Cardiff Metropolitan University and making the masterclass so inspiring.
