First Campus are very pleased to introduce MERTHYR ROCKS, a free Rock Music Programme running at Merthyr Tydfil College on Monday evenings between 5 and 7pm on the following dates: MONDAY EVENINGS 5 – 7pm on 9th , 16th, 23rd May and 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th June 2011 We plan to work with up to 24 young people between the ages of 16 and 20 years in four groups. Each group will ideally be made up of maximum: one drummer, one bassist, one or two guitarists, one keyboard player and a vocalist.
As least one of the songs each band performs will be an original composition, and at least one song will be a genre or style outside the players’ comfort zone. There is NO CHARGE to participate in MERTHYR ROCKS.
There are twenty four spaces – eight guitar spaces and 4 each on drums, vocals, bass and keyboards. Spaces are strictly on a first come first served basis. To book a place please contact Jane Ellis, First Campus Co-ordinator |
The groups will work toward a performance of at least four songs each. A rock ‘gig’ has been organised at the Treforest Student’s Union Club on Sunday the 3rd July between 6:30 and 10:30pm for bands to perform their songs to their friends and family. Bands from MERTHYR ROCKS will perform alongside bands from the JUNIOR ROCK MUSIC ACADEMY in ATRiuM.
