Job Title: Placement and Tutoring Coordinator Based at: University of Glamorgan Your Role My role is to look after a number of links between the University and our local schools. I coordinate work placements on campus for Year 12 school students. I arrange for our University students to visit local schools as part of their studies. I am involved in organising various school events and am the coordinator for the University’s mentoring scheme. Example of a typical event/ typical day at work Its hard to describe a typical day as they can vary so much! I might be visiting a school, delivering mock interviews or setting up mentoring. I might be involved in a school visit to campus, or in the office making plans for one. Favourite part of your job I like visiting schools and enjoy working with young people. Its great that every day is different. We have new projects coming on board all the time so there is always something new to be thinking about. This year we have introduced a new scheme to help Polish pupils in local schools who have very little English. I’ve been able to develop a support scheme that has involved Polish University students visiting the school and mentoring the pupils. We held a Polish cooking event at the end of the year as a celebration, and that was lots of fun for everyone. Any event that involves food makes me happy! You Other interests Away from work, I enjoy yoga, gardening, cooking, learning Spanish and travel – fitting in as many holidays as possible! |
