Looked After Children Open Day |
First Campus at the University of Wales Newport have contributed to the Letterbox packs sent out by the local authority to Looked After Children. The packs include various educational items, such as books, puzzles and stationery. First Campus have added a range of activities such as: crossword puzzles, word searches and spot the difference.
As a follow on from these activities an Open Day was held at the University of Wales, Newport on 21st May. Looked After Children and their Carers came to Caerleon Campus for the day. In the morning there was a campus tour and in the afternoon the children took part in the board game challenge – designing a board game about how to get to university. The feedback from the event was extremely positive. It enabled the Carers to find out what support is available from the authority when the children go to university, as well as giving the children an insight into university life. Everyone enjoyed their day and staff at Newport are hoping to organise a similar event later in the year.
