Job title:  Schools and Community Officer

Based at: University of Wales, Newport.

My role involves working with young people in schools and the community with a view to raising their aspirations to go on to Higher Education.  This is done through a variety of activities and workshops delivered at school, community groups and/or on campus.

Example of a typical day:  It’s very much a case of no two days being the same.  I could be working in the office planning events one day, and out at a school the next.

Favourite part of your job:  I like the variety, getting out and meeting new people.  It’s the sort of job that allows you the opportunity to make a difference.

Background:  I left school after A-levels and entered the ‘world of work’.  I decided to return to education a number of years later and studied BSc Lifespan, Exercise & Health at University of Wales, Newport.  I was a busy Mum of two, working 30 hours per week and studying a full time degree course - it was very challenging - but ultimately very rewarding!  I joined First Campus in the summer after I passed my degree.

Other interests:  Outside of work I enjoy keeping fit, reading, gardening and being a Mum!
