Year 8 pupils from Llantarnam School, Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, Lewis School and Pontllanfraith School have taken part in the First Campus Language and Culture Programme. The first part of the programme involved a visit to University of Wales, Newport – Caerleon Campus. During the visit the pupils worked with tutors from different countries: Sweden, China, Pakistan and Italy. Each school was allocated to one country and they learnt about the language and customs from that country. They also got to sample some of the food and take part in a craft activity. The pupils used the craft items together with the countries flags and balloons to decorate the room and there was a ‘mini world tour’ in the afternoon. Following that day the schools were visited by the tutors from the 3 countries they hadn’t worked with to enable them to learn about them in greater depth. The feedback from this event has been extremely positive. Tasting the food (unsurprisingly) proved to be the most popular activity! |
