First Campus keeps fit!
Year six pupils from schools across the district visited First Campus at the University of Wales, Newport recently for a Mini Sports Challenge.  This is the first activity in the Key Stage 2 Health and Nutrition programme which is taking place throughout the academic year.  The challenge was devised and run by second year BSc Sports Coaching students.

Each school entered teams of 10 who took part in a number of different sporting activities such as relays and hurdles.  The teams brought some of their fellow classmates for support, who were armed with banners and pom poms and cheered on their teams spectacularly!

Congratulation to St David’s Primary who topped the leader board and took home the trophy.  The teachers commented that 'The children were so impressed as we came in to the main building.  When I told them we were in a university where older children come to learn it seemed to really raise their aspirations.  This activity has been so beneficial in team building skills, we arrived as a team and we are leaving as a team, which is something the class has traditionally struggled with.  The children have been using and developing their key skills without really realising it.'  It was a really enjoyable event!
