More than 270 pupils from across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen were invited to gather at the University of Wales, Newport recently for the third Children and Young People’s University Awards Ceremony.

The children and young people, aged between 5 and 18, received bronze, silver or gold medals according to the number of hours they participated in extra-curricular activities throughout 2010/2011.  Teachers, dignitaries and very proud parents watched as the children and young people walked across the hall and received a medal and a certificate from Wyn Davies of Only Men Aloud fame.  The participants then had their photographs taken in a cap and gown.

The evening was organised in partnership with Officers from the five authorities and First Campus at the University of Wales, Newport.   The event was compered by Merfyn Jones, the National Development Officer for the Children and Young People’s University Cymru.   Throughout the evening, the group were entertained with stunning performances by Only Boys Aloud Cwmbran, shown in the picture below, who sang four songs culminating in the national anthem. 
 
It was a fabulous evening celebrating the achievement of school children from the area!
