First Campus at the University of Wales Newport ran a film project recently as part of their Centre for Community and Lifelong Learning Summer School. A Newport graduate, Glenn Biseker ran the fim project with a group of young people whose parents were attending the adults' Summer School.
The students spent three days creating, writing and filming two short films, and they decided to make one horror film and one comedy. The first day was spent talking about film making techniques, creative writing and storyboarding.

The second day covered prop making and organising costume and wardrobe, and on the final day the group organised the actual filming.
The students really enjoyed the project and loved getting an insight into how everything works both in front and behind the cameras. Everyone had the chance to try all the different roles involved and were taught how to use the cameras and sound equipment as well as acting out various roles. One student played a trouble-making teenager in the comedy and there were lots of gruesome make up and costumes for the zombies in the horror film.
The picture shows two of the students getting into character for their role as zombies.
