Collaboration on the dance floor |

The Dancing Together project organised by First Campus in collaboration with UWIC's dance degree staff is aimed at Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils from across the secondary schools in Ely. Michaelston Community College and Woodlands have signed up for the project where pupils explore ideas for a performance piece which they will perform for friends and family, with additional performance opportunities available on request.
The participating pupils were thrilled when professionals from the Candoco Dance Company led the latest workshop. The professionals were assisted by students from UWIC’s dance degree, who usually lead the workshops, as they are required to complete a professional work placement as part of their studies. Three students have been selected to plan and deliver the workshops with the support of programme leader Sally Varrall.

Chris Webb, First Campus Officer at UWIC said: “These workshops are a great example of collaborative working within UWIC and beyond. The project is part of the widening access work that the dance degree team continue to support. Not only has it provided a great, and somewhat rare, opportunity for the pupils to work with peers from other schools, it has offered an experience of working with a world class dance company and has also provided a rich professional development opportunity for the three UWIC students who have worked tirelessly with support and guidance from Sally to create fun and engaging workshops with a wide range of valuable learning outcomes.”
