Building Listening

First Campus at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama 'Building Listening' project visited two Cardiff primary schools, Moorland and Kitchener, to work with 50 Key Stage 2 pupils on their active listening skills.

Using George Gershwin’s 'An American in Paris', over 5 workshops the groups discussed various aspects of music and composed their own work either in response to, or influenced by the piece. The project culminated in a visit to the new Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall at RWCMD for a lunchtime performance of American classics including An American In Paris by Gershwin.

Jane Evans, Head teacher at Kitchener Primary said ‘Thank you for working with us on the project. The children really enjoyed it and the concert was the icing on the cake.’

Jane Jenkins, Head teacher at Moorland Primary said, ‘I would just like to say that the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we would be delighted to take part in any projects that you may be able to offer us in the future!’
