Pupils, parents and teachers were invited to celebrate their achievements at this graduation and awards ceremony. The ceremony culminated with the winning team being presented with the grand prize of £200 for their school donated by UWIC’s Cardiff School of Management. Based on best overall idea, presentation and market research year eight and nine pupils, Hannah Evans, Kayleigh Rees and Abigail Meredith from Llanrumney High walked away with the cheque for their concept ‘Teen Scene’, a cafeteria and lounge for teenagers. “It is a social enterprise simply because it’s environmentally friendly and provides teenagers with something to do. The cafeteria sells healthier goods and has reasonable, affordable prices. We also have an entertainment centre for the occasional concert of unsigned acts and for hiring out for parties. The lounge is for socialising and chilling out,” said one of Teen Scene’s creators, Abigail Meredith. The awards ceremony was the culmination of pupils from Llanedeyrn High, Llanrumney High, Michaelston Community College and St Illtyds RC High School participating in the Junior Bee After-School Club organised by Reaching Wider, First Campus. As a round up, the pupils worked in groups in an effort to become the entrepreneurs of the future, by presenting their business plans in the ‘Dragon’s Den’ a few weeks ago. Commenting on the pupil’s efforts, Natasha Kemp, UWIC’s Entrepreneurship Coordinator said: “Each pupil left the course with a real feeling of achievement and positive attitude towards business education. Working with the all the students throughout the course demonstrated how much young talent Wales has to offer.” Each pupil then donned a graduation cap and received a certificate from First Campus Manager Kathryn Maddy, to highlight their hard work and participation.“This has been a fantastic opportunity for the children. I was really impressed by their imaginative ideas and their confidence to present in such a professional environment,” said Kathryn. |
