Job Title: Schools’ Officer Based at: University of Wales, Newport Your Role My current role is a School’s Officer for the First Campus project involves working with Primary and Secondary pupils organising events and workshops and activities - with the main aim of inspiring pupils to think about their future and introduce them to the concept of HE. Example of a typical event/ typical day at work: The position is quite varied. Some days involve working in the office, preparing for future events, contacting schools and attending meetings. Whilst other days can be spent actually out at schools- delivering different activities and workshops, or running events on campus with school pupils. Key tasks: Planning, organising and delivering workshops and events for School Pupils. Favourite part of your job: The fact that it is so varied- it keeps it interesting. Your Background: I attended a Welsh Medium School, where I gained 10 GCSES. After leaving school, I attended Cross Keys College, where I studied for my A Levels. After completing my A Levels, I spent the next 3 years studying for a BA Joint Hons Degree in English and Religious Studies, at the University of Wales, Newport. I must have enjoyed my time spent at the University, as I’ve spent the last 4 years working here- in various different capacities. Following the birth of my son, I started working part-time for the First Campus office as an Administrator. After 2 years in this post, I started working as a Schools’ Officer on a part- time basis- working predominantly with our Welsh Medium Schools. Then in March 2007, I started working in my current post, as a full time Schools’ Officer. Other interests: Socialising with my friends & family and reading. |
